Age-dependent elastin degradation is enhanced in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Updated: Sep 5, 2022

This research was into a molecule that represents breakdown of elastin. Elastin is responsible for the elasticity of many of the tissues in the body including the lungs, blood vessels and the skin. Loss of elastin leads to loss of elasticity – thus can lead to breathlessness, stiffer blood vessels and skin wrinkling.
