NIHR Nottingham BRC Respiratory Theme team at Science in the Park event at Wollaton Hall

Members of the NIHR Nottingham BRC Respiratory Theme Team took part in the Science in the Park event at Wollaton Hall Nottingham on Saturday 9th March 2024.

We had lots of engagement with over 1400 tickets issued  for the day.

The theme of this year's event was "TIME"

Our team showed the public "Time through the eyes of DNA"

We took a  sneak peak into the role played by DNA modifications in predicting future health. The activities and exhibits aimed to teach the concepts of organisation of DNA in our cells, genetic codes and their ability to store memory of our behaviours and environmental stimuli via epigenetic marks for a long time, subsequently altering organ function.

Activities included making your own DNA and epigenetic marks using straws and beads, stringing coloured alphabet beads together in the sequence of lung function genes to complete a canvas picture and the always popular Virtuali-tee.
